Adding Fat to Baby's Diet
| Q.
My baby is doing great. I took her to her 9 month appointment and,
just as with my son, the doctor is worried about her weight. She
is 15 pounds, 6 ounces and 27 3/8 inches long. Her doctor wants
me to put mayonnaise in her baby food to fatten her up or feed her
avocados. Should I follow this advice? A.
This is not the worst advice I have ever heard, but it's
pretty bad. Mayonnaise makes you fat, unfavorably alters your
lipid profile and is a terrible habit. Avocados are pretty a healthy
food but there is no need to put extra weight on a healthy baby.
Please ask the doctor to begin ignoring the numbers and look at
the beautiful baby.
